These are the ranges of garments and clothing I can either alter or repair. The links will lead to more information and examples of my work just browse the sections and if you do not see what you are looking for click here.
Wedding & Formal Wear
I can alter your wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, flower-girl dresses, or mother of the bride outfits if they are ill fitting. Common problems tend to lie with lengths and bust sizes. Many bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses are too long. Alterations can be made to the dresses where we can take up the hem to the desired length, allowing you to walk more freely – We don’t want you tripping up on your big day!
If you have bought a wedding dress that is too big or too small this can be changed with a simple increase or decrease at the side seams to make the dress smaller or bigger in size. If your wedding dress is too small there is always the option to change a zip or button opening to a lace up back, which will help to create a more flexible size and a perfect figure hugging fit.
Other services I can offer include bust alteration, boning or breast cup removal, hook and eye fixtures, and bustle loop ribbons attachment. But please do get in contact if you would like something altered that I have not mentioned. Second –hand wedding dresses are becoming very popular, sometimes slight alteration is needed to help it fit you or maybe even a repair to an already worn gown. Again do contact me if you need alterations or if you fancy re-styling the dress with lace, coloured panels, all of this can be done.
My prices are dependent. Dresses with heavy beading or lace may be more expensive to alter. As a general guideline I charge £22 per layer alteration, £24 for bagged hems, £30 for train alterations and from £50 for side seam/bodice alterations. I can also alter formal wear such as prom and ball gown dresses, evening dresses, cocktail dresses and christening gowns.
Shirts & Blouses
Both womenswear and menswear shirts and blouses can be altered to create a better fit. Sleeve Lengths can be changed by moving the cuff placement and also widths of sleeves by removing some excess fabric from the width.
Sleeve heads can be moved to ensure the sleeve is sitting correctly on the shoulder line. Sleeves can be removed or added for comfort. Darts can be added to shirts or integrated into seams to create a smaller size of the shirt/blouse.
“FABULOUS SEAMSTRESS. I bought a shirt from the high street, I'm a difficult size fit as I’m tall and skinny, the length fitted me perfectly but overall the shirt was really baggy. I needed something done fast for a night out, Emma was available and within 24 hours the shirt was done and finished! Fitted me perfectly and really reasonable price!!
Thanks Emma Guard Design”
Skirts & Dresses
General alterations and repairs can be done to skirts and dresses. Both can be shortened to a desired length or decreased in size to create a fitted style. Straps, sleeves and necklines can all be altered too.
You many have a dress which needs the zip replacing, or swapping for a concealed/invisible zip, this is something in which I can do.
Shorts, Trousers & Jeans

Multiple alterations and repairs can be done to trousers or jeans both menswear and womenswear. Common problems with jeans include broken zips and missing buttons which both can be replaced. Trousers/suit trousers (Casual and Formal) can be re-hemmed if they have fallen and made shorter if too long. Both waist size and leg width can be altered to create a tighter fit around the waist/more of a slim leg. Pockets and wear and tear holes can all be mended. Especially suit trousers.
Jackets & Coats
I can also alter and repair jackets, blazers and coats.
Did a super job on replacing a long length zip in my winter coat, and sewing back on the pocket. I would recommend Emma to anybody. She was good with the cost and communication too. Thanks again Emma, and just in time for all this rain and cold wind too 🙂 Very pleased indeed.
