Wedding Dress Alterations

So You Have Your Wedding Dress....But

Woman looking shocked about wedding dress not fitting

Well you may have found your dream wedding dress but did you find one with an impeccable fit? Probably not. Fact is that few brides are able to take their new wedding dress from the boutique directly to the alter. This is to be expected. Manufacturers simply cannot cater for every size and body shape so they take their best guess and go from there. Most brides will need to have wedding dress alterations as a matter of course - and for all sorts of other reasons. We can help you with that!

A Word From Emma

I often get asked the question “Can this wedding dress be altered?” I tend to see the panic on brides faces when they have bought a wedding dress but realise their body shape has changed and it is now ill-fitting. Because lets face it every bride will have some stress during her wedding planning or go on the ultimate gym and fat busting diet, which as we all know affects every body in different ways!

"My Answer - “YES!"

So far in my career, I have never come across a wedding dress that cannot be altered. If a dress is too small we can add a beautiful lace up back with a modesty panel, which opens the whole back of the dress up for a more flexible fit. This is also great for when you have had a little too much bubbly and cake on the day, and you need to loosen the dress to breathe!

Don’t panic if you have found the perfect dress but it’s a tad too big, side seam and bust alterations are common when it comes to wedding dresses, most need a nip or a tuck somewhere!

Even Miracles Can Happen…

Once I had a lady who bought her perfect wedding dress, it was THE ONE, she had to have it! The despair in her eyes when she put the dress on wearing the five inch heels she planned to wear on the day. Turning her dress into an ANKLE SWINGING HEMLINE! Not a good look ladies! Again, the panic on her face – “It’s impossible” she said. Not for the miracle seamstress! We matched the lace, added to the hem and nobody could ever tell it was once far too short!

At the end of the day it gives me great pleasure to see the brides happy and somewhat relieved face when the wedding dress fits perfectly and its ticked off the list as another  “JOB DONE”.

Wedding Dress Alterations - A word From Steph

Emma altered my wedding dress in 2019. I didn’t make it easy for her as I had bought it at almost 3 sizes too big! Half way through alterations I decided that I actually wanted the top half to be a completely different shape! Emma was amazing and nothing fazed her. She saw my vision and was so patient and professional. She did the most amazing job at creating my dream dress. I felt absolutely beautiful in it and I can’t thank her enough. She also did a brilliant job at altering my bridesmaids dresses too. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her!
